Numbering question

On this parish record the serial number is duplicated with an 26a and 26b. The children aren't twins and have very different parents. Is this just a case of the priest reusing the number and then adding the a/b to differentiate between the two?

There is no obvious reason for the duplication.

 

My guess is that the clergy inadvertently used the number 26 twice, and when noticing it, he chose to use a and b rather than

renumbering all the subsequent entries.

I think Ivar is right.

26 a and b is only used in the copy of the ministerial book. In the original, official ministerial book, the two baptism are listed on separate pages without a or b.

The error was probably first detected when the copy was made, and a and b were added.

It's what I thought too, just a numbering error, but wanted to check and see I was missing something. Thank you for the thoughts.
