Assuming E.A. Sather was frugal and was using his cardboard stock in many different places might point to other locations where Johannes could be found....

Apparently, he left photography behind when he came to Bend, Ore. and instead owned-operated a dry goods store. So his business operation will give bookends to when the picture of Johannes could have been taken.  Dorthea got it, however, after her marriage to Haagoy, though.

John aka as Jack were long time residents of Pierce county, last seen at (from memory Rushton?) Ella died before Jack but I couldn't find Jack's or the right John's death certificate when I was looking.  Never mind, having brain freeze.

That must be Mads Henrik Johansson Værøy.  According to the Bygdebok he was born in 1855, and was in the US in the period 1886-1895.

Thanks for info about Henry.  I ran across his listing in the Royal Consulate records database and began to think maybe Johannes decided to forget his birth year and first name...  But here is the stuff:

In 1910 census US he is living in Walsh county, North Dakota, single, doing odd jobs.

"United States Census, 1910", , FamilySearch (https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MLG6-LL2 : Sat Mar 09 10:51:27 UTC 2024), Entry for Henry J Varo, 1910.

 

By 1913 he is living and working near Lemmon, South Dakota.
