Is the place name in a confirmation the name of the person's residence or birth?

I do not know that they were following any rules concerning this (does anybody else know?), but in my experience: place of residence. They were giving the names of the parents (but I have also seen sometimes a step-parent mentioned instead of the biological parent) and their present place of residence.

In Confirmations in Manger 1839-1846, the heading in the book is "Fødested" (place of birth).

I should have written I am reading the records from the mid 1700's in Eker, Buskerud, including those on this website. There are no headings, nor names of parents. I am trying to find the parents. The baptism records 1754-1763 are lost, missing, but there is a tax list of 1765 with adults and teenagers (I guess). So I try to match confirms with farm and father names on the tax list.
