Good morning, I've done a bunch of research for this particular topic and have almost next to no success getting a satisfactory answer. I even asked Chat GPT and i feel the information given needs to be taken with a grain of salt, hence why i'm coming on here to ask. Would soldiers that served in the Norwegian Army between 1899-1905 be given any awards, medals, honors for their service? As many already know I've asked alot about my great grandpa Olav Knutsson Rysstad (1877-1924) I was kindly given one of his service records by archives i believe. It mentioned his service # and recorded the time he served and where he was from. We know her was part of the Kristiansandske Infantry Brigade and also that he was a Private. Did soldiers at this time in Norway's history get awarded for serving? I have also read some soldiers got recognition for certain skills as well like marksmanship, etc. If this was in fact a thing, where can this information be found? However, if nothing like a service badge or medals were awarded in this era, then that closes that door. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time!

Good Morning, I'm looking for more information for both my great grandfather Olav K Rysstad (born in 1877) and his younger brother Olav K Rysstad (born in 1879). I've attached some documents that were sent to me by the The National Archives Services. But i can't read what it says concerning the two Olavs. On another document is showed that the older Olav became a soldier in 1899 and the other just after 1900. Both were privates in the infantry. My question is, are there military records that show data or info of their overall military career. For example if they received any honor or awards (medals). Any help would be much appreciated. Hello, Would anybody have information regarding Inger Knutsdatter Rysstad? Her dad was Olav Knutsson Rysstad (1877-1924). There was very little information of her in the Valle Kommune volume 1 and also a profile of her on geni ... But is all I could find. In the Valle Kommune it says that she we to Mosby??? Thanks

Hello, Would anybody have more information on Olav Knutsson Rysstad and his wife Jorunn Rysstad. Thanks to the Valle Kommune bygdeboker books Vol 1 & 2 there is some information on him and his forefathers going back to Nils Mikkelsson Nomeland (1570-1605) A few people on here have provided me with some census records which have been helpful. And even screenshotted pages from Valle Kommune of Olav's great grandfathers like Tarjei Knutsson Uppstad and Knut Tarjeisson Uppstad, etc. I understand that information is limited, missing or non-existent. Perhaps some of you are related and have details, photos, etc that you would be willing to share. I posted one of the few photos I have of Olav. Been reaching out to digitial archives and setesdal museum and others. But like mentioned before, information may be hard to come by. I was told to reach out to family in Vennesla. Any suggestions?
