Hjalmar Leonard Jacobsen b. 1888 and Klara Marie Nilsen, b. 1881 did not have the same father.

Hjalmar is born out of wedlock, his mother Laurine Kristine is married at that time. The record also says that it is her second child born out of wedlock.

 

Hjalmar's father is bachelor Jacob Olaus Jacobsen from Porsgrunn.

Under Occupation it says in English - "hired".  What does that mean? Another part of a document says "no place to live".  Exactly what is he living in where all those people seem to be in the same household.  Is that a prison? 

Thank you fo this. Also had no idea he & Klara didn't have same father, nor did I know all about Laurine Kristine.  What can I say?!  She amazes me.  I note that her first out of wedlock child bears the same name as Anne Mathea Andersdtrs. (her mother's) out of wedlock child.  She must have been very fond of him.

Hjalmar har no permanent place to stay and no fixed jobb or occupation. "Dagarbeider", he works for one employers for one day, two days, may be more. Then he works for new employers.

Randi b. 1913...Difficult to read the writing.  Klara Marie Aamodt & Ole Aamodt are her parents?  I thought Randi was daughter of Klara & a Captain Samuelsen. Have never heard of Aamodt family.  I will see if I can find anything in Randi's letters to my mother, especially the name of her son. Thank you for all your hard work searching records for me...you are very good at this.  It took me a long, long time to find the records I had previously found as I didn't know where anyone was from except my mom & Matilde.  Even though I had Matilde's confirmation certificate it took me forever to find her. When I was searching for one particular family member  I believe I read every parish register in every area/district of Norway!  I can't thank you enough for finding all this information!

Wasn't able to find out how Randi is related to my mother even tho' I made a trip to Parry Sound yesterday.  (I'm only an hour away now that I have moved north from Toronto & anything beyond that would blow me away!  I can't imagine travelling 12 hours by car to anywhere!  It is believed Randi is my mother's cousin.  I think Randi's son is named Ola & his wife may be Marit & it seems she only has/had the one child.  In a card dated 1995 she mentions "Solveig" who is a daughter of "Aunt Bergliot".  She also refers to Siguard as "uncle"  She has some grandchildren but I don't know how many.  In a 1977 letter she refers to her husband "Erling" & "Helga" her sister in law & her husband & son who I believe are in Dramman.  Another letter is in Norwegian & I don't know what it says.  Someone my mother had a close relationship with has now become a mystery!   As an aside, I mention here there are quite a few cards & notes from Ruth Havelrud - also all in Norwegian so I don't know what they say either.  None of my family speak Norwegian.  When my mother arrived in Canada, sadly, her mother told her they don't speak Norwegian anymore.  She said "we are in Canada now & we speak English".  However, my mother's sister ignorned the command & became fluent in reading & writing Norwegian.  Unfortunately family research began too late as that entire generation is now deceased. There is a relative in the U.S. who no doubt knows the connection to Randi & if I can find out I will let you know...that may take a couple month until after Christmas when a cousin will make an enquiry.

Re the post on the Ships Lists for Matilde & Olga to Canada - I missed reading this post but yes I do have those records.  Also the "Jensen" family coming to Canada in 1914.  Although Peder Olai's surname is Jensen, when he came to Canada he changed his name to Johnson because Matilde had 5 children in the name Johnson & Grampa Pete thought it easier to change his surname rather than that of the 5 children.
