Då eg på 1980-talet arbeidde med denne personen frå Luster, fekk eg følgjande opplysningar frå etterkomarar etter søskeni hans:

 

Salomon Olson Berge, fødd i Luster 12.9.1853, utvandra med mpr si til Amerika i 1867 og var i 1880 busett som farmarbeidar hjå broren Peder i Franklin township, Vernon Co., WI

 

So fortel slekti følgjande: «Sam reiste frå Wisconsin og var farmarbeidar mange ulike stadar i Nord-Vesten».  Han skal aldri ha vore gift,, men var i 1932 busett i Oregon!  Sidan høyrde dei aldri meir gjete han...»

Samuel B. Berg

Aurora – Samuel B. Berg, 87, resident of Clacksmas county for the past 33 years, died at his home in Canby Monday morning after a short illness.  Berg was born in Hegleland Sogue, Norway July 31, 1852.  He came to the United States at the age of 16, and settled in Minnesota, and later homesteaded in North Dakota, returning to Minnesota where he was united in marriage to Gina Sandsness June 11, 1886.  He returned to his homestead in North Dakota and lived there for three years when he, with his family moved to Melville, Montana, where they lived for 18 years.  In the summer of 1905, Mr. Berg visited the World’s fair in Portland and while there he purchased the old Barlow place at Barlow, moving his family to Oregon in the spring of 1906, where the family lived until 1919, or until Mr. Berg retired from actve farm life.  Mr. and Mrs. Berg moved to Silverton where they lived until 1921, moving to Canby at that time, where he had since resided.  Mrs. Berg preceded him in death November 4, 1936.  He is survived by nine children: Mrs. Clara Johnson of Junction City; Mrs. Agnes Drew of Castle Rock, Wash., Mrs. Emma Schreder of Salem, Mrs. Stella Avit of Los Banos, Calif., Mrs. Nellie Hams of Canby, Bernard and Albert Berg of Barlow, George of Canby and Elmer of Salem; one sister Julia Berg of Stanley, N. D., and 17 grandchildren.  Funeral services will be held from the Canby Funeral home Tuesday afternoon with Rev. N. J. Aadland, Pastor of Zoar Lutheran church officiating.  Interment Zion cemetery, Canby.

Hjarteleg takk til Anton og Grethe for nye utfordrande innlegg!

 

Eg ser no at her har skjett ei blanding av to tremenningar med same namn, Salomon Olson, som båe var fødde i Luster og som båe utvandra til same stad i Amerika!!

 

Men den «kandidaten» som Anton attgjev er «den andre», og biografien hans er bra komplett frå før, bortsett ifrå nokre detaljar, som eg sjølvsagt ville setja stor pris på å kunna leggja til...):

Den sakna Salomon Olson budde i 1880 hjå broren Peter i Franklin township, Vernon Co., WI og er siste gongen eg finn han nemnd!!

 

Er det likevel mogeleg å finna att kvar det vart av han?  Eg held fingri vel krossa og takkar på ny for framifrå bistand!

Salomon Olson {Talle}, f. {i Luster} 19.4.1850,

Salomon Olson utvandra til Amerika i 1870 og gifte seg første gongen i Vernon Co., Wis. 12.10.1875 med Bergit, kjend som Betsy Swenson, dotter av sølvsmed Ole Svendson Thon (1812-1892) som ei tid var innerst i Stegane under Åsen.  Betsy var f. i Wisconsin 23.10.1852.  Salomon var snikkar («carpenter»), men han og Betsy slo seg ned på ein farm i Sterling township, Vernon Co., Wis.  Betsy Olson d. i Vernon Co., Wis. 28.9.1893, og 24.7.1904 gifte Salomon seg att i Vernon Co., Wis. med enkja Anna Sørensdotter, opphavleg frå Stubbøy under Øyene, i Amerika kjend som Anna Sorenson.  Ho var f. i Luster 24.12.1863 og utvandra til Amerika i 1882.  Ho hadde før vore gift med husmannssonen, enkjemann Lars Thomasson frå Lykkja under Kjørlaug i Hafslo (1840-1895).  Salomon og Anna budde kan henda ei tid på farmen hans i Sterling township, Vernon Co., Wis., men flytte sidan inn til Viroqua, Vernon Co., Wis. der Salomon d. 3.8.1915.  Anna Olson d. same staden 12.5.1940.  Salomon Olson fekk i alt sju born; seks av dei var frå første ekteskapet, medan Anna var mor til yngste dotteri:

a. Johanna Amalia, kjend som Amelia Olson, f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 5.9.1876, d. i St. Louis, Ill. 14.4.1949.  Ho gifte seg i Vernon Co., Wis. 12.11.1899 med Martin Simpson.  Han var f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 1.7.1878 og d. i Vernon Co., Wis. 31.8.1925.  Amelia og Martin Simpson farma i Sterling township, Vernon Co., Wis. og fekk seks born i lag.

b. Ida Marie Olson (1878-1955), vart gift med Gilbert Einar Johnson (1877-1938), son av gardbrukarsonen Anders Nitter Johannesson frå Høyeim (1824-1880) (s.d.).

c. John Melvin Olson, f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 22.2.1882, d. ugift i Viroqua, Wis. 24.6.1954.  John Olson var landhandlar («general merchant») og budde i Bristow, Sterling township, Vernon Co., Wis.

d. Anna Marie, kjend som Mary Ann Olson, f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 6.1.1884, d. i Montana 15.3.1915.  Ho gifte seg i Manhattan, Mont. 9.11.1909 med Frederick Adelbert, kjend som Delbert McLees.  Han var f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 16.9.1888 og d. i Manhattan, Mont. 6.1.1954.  Mary Ann og Delbert farma i Madison Valley, Gallatin Co., Mont., men var barnlause.

e. Julia Olson, f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 14.7.1887, d. i Billings, Mont. 11.11.1986.  Ho gifte seg første gongen i Bozeman, Mont. 4.4.1912 med enkjemannen John Morrison McLees, f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 20.7.1890.  Han hadde før vore gift med Jean Goman.  John var farmarbeidar («farm laborer»), men d. i Butte, Mont. alt 16.9.1912, og 9.6.1917 gifte Julia seg att i Bozeman, Mont. med Harold McLees.  Han var f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 30.3.1895 og d. i Tromberg, Mont. 11.2.1954.  Harold og Julia farma i Madison Valley, Gallatin Co., Mont.  Julia fekk ei dotter, som var frå andre ekteskapet.

Gilbert Oscar Olson, f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 9.9.1889, d. i Viroqua, Wis. 14.1.1970.  Gilbert gifte seg i Vernon Co., Wis. 31.12.1913 med Ida Glenn, f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 15.10.1892.  Ho d. i Viroqua, Wis. 7.5.1984.  Gilbert var kolonialhandlar («grocery merchant») i Viroqua, Vernon Co., Wis., og han og Ida fekk tre born i lag.

g. Jemyra Christine, kjend som Christine Olson, f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 30.8.1906, d. i Viroqua, Wis. 6.5.1973.  Christine gifte seg første gongen i Vernon Co., Wis. 22.5.1929 med Stanley Palmer Erickson.  Han var f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 12.8.1907 og d. i Beloit, Wis. 27.8.1966.  Christine og Stanley Erickson farma i Sterling township, Vernon Co., Wis., men vart skilde, og 17.6.1961 gifte Christine seg att i Vernon Co., Wis. med Lee Roy Snell.  Han var f. i Vernon Co., Wis. 24.5.1897 og d. i Viroqua, Wis. 21.3.1972.  Lee Roy Snell var farmar og lastebilførar («farmer and truck driver»), medan Christine var lærar («school teacher»).  Dei budde i Viroqua, Vernon Co., Wis.  Christine fekk ingen born i nokon av ekteskapi.
